Rocky Mountain National Park.

Yesterday, we went to the Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a perfect day because the temperature was around 60 degrees in the lower parts of the mountains. It was sunny and mostly clear as well. Also, the elk were out because it is their mating season and you could hear them bugling. Initially, Justin (aka Game Boy) wasn't very excited, but Jacob (aka Nature Boy) was ready to go as soon as we mentioned it. The nicknames, by the way, are the doings of the children. However, Justin's changed to Tiny Bubbles when my family was visiting - but don't ask. Anyhow, we checked the weather before we left and saw that it was supposed to be raining at the top of the mountain, so we loaded up our jackets and strapped on our boots and off we went. Once we got close to the park and the boys started seeing snow on some of the mountains, they got so excited! We stopped just before we got there to take a little walk on a trail and let Lola use the bathroom. There was a creek running nearby so naturally the boys had to get their feet wet. We came across a rock that looked fairly climbable so Jacob, being my child, had to test it out. He was up it before I could even get over to the rock. Justin was fine with me helping him up to the first ledge so he could turn around and sit on it. He is getting a little more adventurous in his years, but hasn't reached Jacob's level of thrill-seeking quite yet (which is fine with me). The park was beautiful but we only saw a portion of it. We drove on this road that was one-way and very thin in some parts but Tom drove slowly and it was very enjoyable. The road itself was 11 miles long (i.e. 2 hours to get to the end) and by the time we reached the top, the wind was blowing between 30-40 mph and it was 48 degrees. Needless, to say we didn't stay there very long before we headed back down the mountain. We did get out briefly so Lola could stretch her legs and the boys could throw a snowball or two, but I was worried about someone going over the edge and I made everyone get back in the truck. I think we all slept good last night. If you really want to see how out of shape you are, go to 11,000 feet and try to walk up a hill against the wind. WHEW!! It was a very enjoyable day and we plan to go back to the park so that we can see some other parts of it. Here are some other pics:

Tom and boys on the first trail we went on.

I can't believe how big he is getting!

Lola loves the cool weather!

The ladies.

The man.

Over the mountain and through the woods.

I loved the boots and jeans.

Our boys.

SO HAPPY!!

Are we there yet?!

So pretty!

Road markers for when the snow gets deep. They were 20' high and they were even around the buildings at the top of the mountain.

"You're too close to the edge!"

My hunny-bunny.

The road back home.
