The boys just completed their first trimester of the school year. They have both been doing very well. We received their report cards last week and we had parent/teacher conferences with both of their teachers this week. Academically, both boys did very well. Justin has a few behavior issues to work on, but his teacher said she has seen an improvement since the beginning of the year and expects it to get better with a little more maturity. He also goes to see the Gifted and Talented teacher once a week with only 3 other children from his class. The district that we are in works with Kindergartners that demonstrate a higher level of thinking skills and are selected by their teachers. After Kindergarten, the children are not identified as Gifted/Talented until the end of 3rd grade. The teacher, however, said that she is sure she will be seeing Jacob in the future. Jacob's teacher had nothing but praise for him. She said that is such an outside the box thinker, that he has helped take their class to another level. He has a strong desire to learn as much as he can. She said that he will be quiet while she is talking and she can just see the wheels in his head turning. He is a very good listener, but after he processes it, he has lots of questions for her. Both boys are doing very well in reading and math and are at a higher level than is standard for each of their grades. His class did a podcast and thanks to Jacob, the subject was spiders! The class created a 6 paragraph poem about spiders. We are very proud of them. Below are a few things from each child. Most of Jacob's school work will not be returned until the end of the school year.
Jacob will be recognized at an assembly in front of the whole school. He said he gets to stand on stage and even shake the Principal's hand! He is such a sweet child and has many friends.

Justin's teacher said that she tries to keep Justin involved so that he does not get bored (i.e. get in trouble). She said she started working with him on skills they should have at the end of the school year, like writing your numbers from 1-100.
Justin's class was working with patterns. His teacher said she was telling the class they could make patterns from shapes and colors and Justin spoke up and said numbers. When she gave them a sheet of paper to draw a pattern on, the work on the bottom is what he gave her. She said it was the only one she saved because she was so amazed that a 5-year-old would think at the level of counting backwards by tens from 30.
