Ahhh, credit cards. What evil little things! What a stupid idea that we have been told that we can "borrow" money on a regular basis that we don't even have to begin with. And then, to make it worse, you pay a large amount one time in addition to your minimum payment and they send you a notice saying they are increasing your credit limit! Well, Tom and I have fallen for the evil plot for a while (although coming from parents that never had them and tried their best to lead us on the right path...thanks, Mom, Dad and Rita), but NO MORE! Last night we performed a
plastectomy together. If you need help understanding this, please refer to
Dave Ramsey. I rounded up all of our credit cards that were stowed away in drawers, old purses, and our wallets and this was the result:
I know I feel very good about this. Now the temptation is gone for me. Seeing those little, plastic beauties filling my wallet, has always created this false sense of security. How is paying for something with money I don't have security? Beats me too. Knowing that we have no "back up" is going to make us more cautious with the cash we have on hand. I do not want to be owned by the people that I owe money to and we are working on being completely debt free.
"The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." - Proverbs 22:7
